MeeGo TSG Meeting. Roadmap Released.

March 24, 2010, Posted by Dhruv at 10:06 pm

I’ve been following the first MeeGo Technical Steering Group Meeting this evening (still ongoing as I write this) and during the meeting, the initial roadmap was released:

  • First Code release: Next week (by end of March 2010) – Known as ‘Day 1’
  • MeeGo 1.0 release in May, 1.1 in October, 6 month regular releases from there on.
  • Netbook user interface will be included on day 1
  • After Day1, Meego ‘reference user experiences’ for netbooks and handsets will be fed-in
  • Atom and Ti OMAP to be supported on Day 1.

Other interesting points picked up so far…

  • Initial (Day 1) Netbook UX is Moblin 2.1 GTK+Clutter.
  • Working groups will be created for the netbook and handset usage models. The two other usage models – In-Vehicle and Connected TV were not mentioned but it assumed that working groups will be set up for these.

Information on the current 2-man TSG:

Imad Sousou “is the backbone of Intel Open Source Management. Has done that for 15 years or so already. He is currently the head of a group that hosts the core of Linux and open source developers and SW engineering at intel. This group is called OTC, Open Source Technology Center.”

Valtteri Halla “is the guy who introduced Nokia to Linux — and now is the head of MeeGo at Nokia… and he is also a member of the Nokia CEO Technology Council. Valtteri works for Ari Jaaksi who heads the maemo devices group at Nokia (which will probably end up being the MeeGo devices group at Nokia)”

The TSG will grow and add members based on contribution and commitment to MeeGo.

A proposal for a community working group is available. You’ll find a list of people that have already contributed or are interested in becoming a part of this community working group.

Meeting continues… will add below if anything important comes up….

I had a quick look at the team that has been assembled for MeeGo. Do you have any speculation about why its 70% Meamo members and only 30% Moblin?

I actually have drinks next week with some devs out here in Taiwan next week. I found out while making plans with them that they haven’t worked a day on their Moblin build since they found out about MeeGo. That’s a lot of down time to wait for a new build!!
